He is a second-generation wrestler from the Hart family and has experience in amateur wrestling, having competed at Ernest Manning High School and Mount Royal College. He has been credited with influencing the public's image of mainstream North American professional wrestling in the early 1990s by emphasising technical in-ring performance. He is a significant international draw in the sport of professional wrestling.
